Military Leadership's Guide to E2I: Supporting Recovery & Readiness

Learn how E2I serves as a powerful management tool to support your Service Members' recovery, readiness, and successful transition.

A Tool for Mission Readiness & Career Transition

You play a critical role in the well-being and career progression of your Service members. The Education & Employment Initiative (E2I) is an official DoW program designed to support you and your recovering Service members (RSMs) in this mission.

As a leader, your support enables RSMs to explore new opportunities. The E2I program connects them with valuable education, training, and certification resources. It also helps them gain work experience that can prepare them for a return to duty with new skills or a successful transition to civilian life.

Your participation provides structured and supportive pathways for your RSMs to gain valuable work experience and prepare for their future. The E2I program ensures that RSMs are either developing new skills to bring back to your unit or are prepared for a smooth and successful transition to civilian life, reflecting positively on your command.

Leadership Can Support Participation by:

Support Early Engagement

Encourage RSMs to connect with E2I Regional Coordinators (RCs) early in their recovery or transition process to maximize opportunities.

Maintain Mission Balance

Participation should complement the RSM's recovery, medical treatment, and military responsibilities.

Prioritize Medical Care

Ensure RSMs understand that medical appointments and recovery requirements always take priority over internship, education, or employment activities.

Encourage Professional Development

E2I and OWF provide valuable opportunities for RSMs to gain civilian workplace experience, education, and career readiness skills.
